Leopard sharks came into my vision unexpectedly, after a friend shared an image of one with me. I was instantly inspired to paint them. It’s not that I suddenly love sharks, but something about leopard sharks felt different. I became fascinated by their leopard-like patterns and the way their bodies move so calmly and gracefully through shallow coastal waters.
I love the ocean and some of my most happiest memories live there. Painting this piece, although I’ve never knowingly swum with or seen these sharks, comes from lived moments rather than direct experiences. From the way light filters through water, how gold shimmers like dappled sunlight, and how being underwater feels like entering another world. Floating, peaceful and deeply calming.
Shallow Passage speaks to that moment of crossing into something unfamiliar, with a sense of awe and wonder. It’s about moving into new territory, led by curiosity rather than certainty, and allowing the journey to reveal itself as you go. ✨
