Reclaim the Sky

This painting marked the beginning of my Between Tide and Sky series, inspired by the wildlife along the Brighton coast. And if you live by the sea, you’ll know that seagulls pretty much own the sky!
They’re often viewed negatively, mostly because of their boldness when it comes to food. One minute you’re about to take a perfect bite of your sandwich, the next a gull has swooped in from behind and it’s gone. And suddenly all that squawking sounds suspiciously like laughter. At least, that’s my experience!
For me, this painting became about something more. About focus, determination, and giving yourself fully to what matters most. I painted it during a time when I had two series on the go, six paintings in progress, and a huge determination to finish four within two weeks. Above my easel, I had a note that read: reclaim your focus; a reminder to keep going whenever creative resistance crept in.
Not only did I reach the goals I’d set myself, but that period of dedication also led to my work being accepted into a community exhibition.
Reclaim the Sky is a reminder that when you commit to what calls you, you create room for your dreams to rise.✨
