Luminous Waters ✨
I was inspired by a sailing journey I embarked on some years ago, crossing the Pacific Ocean on a 50ft yacht from NZ to Fiji. The nights were full of bioluminescence and the water would glow as the boat parted the waves, lighting up the darkness around us.✨
I heard a story of someone who had witnessed dolphins swimming beside their boat during the bioluminescence and that it was the most magical thing they’d ever seen. So every night I would look over the edge of the boat staring into the glowing ocean, hoping I might see one. Sometimes I wanted it so badly I almost convinced myself I had.
When I arrived in Fiji, I remember reading a quote by Roald Dahl:
“Those how don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
This painting brings me back to that feeling. Watching the ocean glow and hoping something beautiful might emerge from the dark.
